WEST OF SCOTLAND GOLF TOURS

We pick these four clubs in Ayrshire on the West coast of Scotland for their outstanding pedigree, location and history, and in all honesty they don’t have a poor hole between them.

The four courses are well over 100 years old, and two of which are hosts to The Open, Turnberry and Royal Troon. This is a special experience for lovers of Links golf.

Needless to say the views out over the Firth of Clyde to Arran and the Mull of Kintyre are spectacular, as is the hospitality extended to you in each clubhouse.

Links golf represents less than 1% of the 38864* courses in the world.  *R&A Golf Around the World.

Western Gailes Golf Club

WESTERN GAILES GOLF CLUB

Western Gailes is regarded by many as a “hidden gem of Scottish Links.

Golfers have been playing here since 1897 and the course richly deserves its reputation as one of Scotland's finest natural Links

Pick your tees carefully as it is a thinking person's course, and when played from the back boxes it presents a challenge particularly when there’s a stiff westerly coming in at you off the water.

The clubhouse is magnificent and the welcome warm and friendly. The terrace on a warm sunny afternoon is just the place to sit back and enjoy their great food and hospitality.

ROYAL TROON GOLF COURSE

Royal Troon dates to 1878 and it remains a favourite of professional golfers and spectators alike when The Open comes to Troon.

For most, the course plays best off the back boxes with a left to right bias. There are three par 3’s eleven 4’s and four 5’s.

The 121 yard 8th hole, Postage Stamp, is regarded as one of the very finest par 3’s in world golf. It is held in the same regard as the 12th at Augusta, the 7th at Pebble Beach and the 16th at Cypress Point.

It’s like going back in time when you sink into that armchair in the clubhouse lounge, very old school in look and feel, although pleasingly the team is excellent with a genuine welcome and great hospitality.

Prestwick Golf Club

PRESTWICK GOLF CLUB

Whilst St Andrews is undoubtably the home of golf, Prestwick is the home of The Open having hosted the inaugural tournament in 1860. It hosted The Open another twenty-four times between 1860 and 1925.

This is a great golf Links and quirky to the extent that a course would never be designed like this today, and that it the attraction for so many that we tour with here, year after year.

The views over the Firth of Clyde to the Island of Arran are exceptional.

Following your round, you must take time out in the clubhouse. The reception is always warm and we recommend you take a tour as the history that is associated with this club is fascinating.

TURNBERRY AILSA (8th World top 100 courses)

If you have never played the Ailsa Course, you really need to as it is difficult to put into words just what an amazing experience it is on the course and in the facilities. If you decide to stay over at the Hotel, you will appreciate why this is regarded as a world-class resort.

The eight-hole run from four through to eleven is simply stunning, there is nothing quite like it on any other course that we have played.

The views are breath-taking, and always in sight is Ailsa Craig, the 500 million year old volcanic island, sitting eleven miles offshore in the Firth of Clyde.

As the 8th best course in the world, this is an exclusive experience.
